SYNOPSIS

"Ceremonia I." is a performance ritual in collaboration with participants and analogue cameras. In it, my left breast takes on a life of its own, embodying neurosis and exposing the disconnection I can no longer endure. This absurd exploration allows me to confront my painful relationship with care, while subverting exploitative representations of sexual and reproductive labor. The analogue cameras, a super 8mm film & DV tape recorder, resist the disposability of time, and act as external consciousnesses, amplifying presence and affirming: “I feel what you feel.” Participants are invited into a collective ritual practice & are instructed with 3 key words connected to tasks that may be summoned at any point throughout this emergent ritual. I approach the participants with my own vulnerability as I ask them for their assistance. This project emerged from a moment when I no longer wanted to live due to a lifetime of internalized systemic violence & caregiving. It became a tender plea to my body and community for help in opening a portal to my aliveness—a vulnerable transition into true interdependence and radical care.
