On November 2019, the Chilean Feminist collective, LASTESIS performed their original protest “Un Violador En Tu Camino” in the streets of Chile, inspiring the entire world in a cry for justice against the systemic and global rape and femmicide of women. On January 10th 2020 Yara Travieso, Paola Mendoza, Nelini Stamp, and Amber Tamblyn collaborated with LASTESIS and organized a large performance protest in NYC and Washington DC. The performance is a chant and choreography denouncing the rape culture and femmicide against all women and non-binary people: “It was not my fault, not where I was nor how I dress. The rapist was you! It’s the cops, the judges, the system, the president!” Exclaiming that we are not at fault for these violent actions, but the systemic policy and patriarchy that keeps us unprotected. Travieso helped direct the rehearsals for thousands of women and femmes in NYC + DC to perform the action in front of the Harvey Weinstein’s trial where Variety reported their cries were heard inside the courtroom, as well as The White House. Travieso was the liaison between the Women’s March and LASTESIS to bring them to DC and help lead a performance for a crowd of 25k+ chanting in Spanish in front of the white house. The performances received overwhelming front page coverage in BBC, NYT, VICE, CNN, Washington post, NBC, The Guardian, Huffington Post, Variety, Buzzfeed, Democracy Now, Havana Times, and many more.
